Chianti Region of Tuscany
We fell in love all over again in this beautiful area of Tuscany which felt vastly different than the hustle and bustle of Florence.
The black rooster symbolizes the Chianti Classico wine region, a subset of the Chianti region, that produces the most notable Chianti wines. During the Middle Ages the rival republics of Florence and Siena were locked in a bitter war over the highly coveted and fertile Chianti Classico region. To stop the bloodshed and permanently draw the border, they agreed to a unique, peace-seeking competition.
The hungry black rooster from Siena beat the satiated white rooster from Florence and won the competition. The black rooster represents this victory and is still the symbol today.
After a hard day of wine tasting, Stacy cooled off in the infinity pool at our hotel.
Our trip was especially productive because we identified a new design for our wine storage in SC. This may be spacious enough to accommodate our Italian wine purchases.
One day we journeyed to Montalcino, the land of Brunello. Terry was excited to find a bottle large enough to pair with his dinner. The wine from Collosorbo is fantastic!
Lunch on the patio overlooking these gorgeous Sangiovese vineyards makes the heart sing.
Many of the wineries have invested in supporting artists and have works of art throughout their vineyards.
Terry enjoyed a different type of art, the art of the pizza pie. The pizza was so delicious!!
So many wines, so little time.
During our time in the Chianti Classico region we learned to appreciate the differences between the various Chianti expressions and how the terroir of the Classico region influences the quality and taste. Mission accomplished. We are headed to Spello in Umbria
